This week, our kindergarten Cubs were so excited to learn about the positive effects of handwashing from the amazing SCHS nursing pathway students! 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️💙 They shared tips, answered questions, and reminded us how something simple can make a BIG difference in staying healthy. 🙌🌟

Our Cubs practiced being Engaged Citizens by learning how to take care of themselves and others. 🐻💡

🌦️📡 Forecast: Learning Fun! 📡🌦️ Our 3rd grade Cubs had a bright and sunny day of learning with a special visitor — WDRB meteorologist Bryce Jones! ☀️🌪️⛈️ He shared all about meteorology and answered students’ big weather questions. 🌎💡 Students shined as Effective Communicators and Engaged Citizens, connecting real-world science to their classroom learning. 🧠✨ At SCES, we Love. 📝✨ Parts of Speech Sort Fun! ✨📝 Mrs. Tobbe’s 3rd graders took on Reading Standard L.3.1a by working together to sort words into the correct parts of speech. 💡🔤 Students explained their thinking, defended their choices, and collaborated as a team to get it just right. 🙌 One student summed it up perfectly: “We make a really great team.” 💙 These Active Collaborators and Effective Communicators showed us what it means to Love. 🎉👩‍🏫 Distributive Doctors in Action! 👨‍🏫🎉 Mrs. Ousley’s class put on their “doctor coats” today and got hands-on with the Distributive Property! 🧠💡 Using colorful play dough, these mathematicians “dissected” multiplication problems to see how they can be broken apart, rearranged, and solved in new ways. 🎨➗✖️ Our Problem Solvers and Empowered Learners had a blast bringing math to life while building a deeper understanding. 🙌📚 At SCES, we Love. ➕🎉 Math was hands-on and exciting in Mrs. Lawton’s class today! 🐾💙 Our Cubs became Problem Solvers as they practiced the associative property using pipe cleaners to model their thinking. 🔢✨ This creative approach turned abstract math into something visual, interactive, and fun — helping our students grow as Empowered Learners while building confidence in their skills. 🙌📏 At SCES, we Love. 🪸🌊 Fossils + Fun = Learning in Action! 🐚🔍 Thanks to a grant from the Falls of the Ohio Foundation and State Park Volunteers, our 4th grade Cubs put their STEAM skills to the test by discovering and identifying 390-million-year-old fossils from when Kentucky was a shallow ocean! 🤯🦐🐠 Our students were Problem Solvers and Engaged Citizens as they connected science, history, and hands-on discovery. 💡🙌 At SCES, we Love. 📚💙 Our library just got even cozier! Thanks to the amazing support of our PTO through last year’s Cub Calendar fundraiser, we now have new flexible seating for students to enjoy. 🪑✨ Our Cubs have loved curling up with their favorite stuffies 🧸 and diving into great books 📖 in this fun new reading area. At SCES we Love, Learn, Lead every day — and this space is the perfect way to help our students fall in love with reading, learn in comfort, and lead as lifelong readers! 🌟🐾

Today at 3:51 pm, the administration of Spencer County Elementary School was made aware of a potential threat. It was reported to the Taylorsville Police Department that two adults engaged in a vigorous discussion online in which a potential threat against the school was made.

Upon receiving that report, the Taylorsville Police Department coordinated with their partners at the Spencer County Sheriff's Office to ensure the safety of students during the rest of the dismissal period.

At this time, local law enforcement continues to work all leads and will have an active presence all day tomorrow on campus.
