Due to current impact of the winter storm, all Spencer County Schools, Tiger Cub Village, and our Central Office will be closed tomorrow, January 6, 2025.
As a reminder, tomorrow was already designated as a District Professional Development Day for staff, so no classes were scheduled for students.
We will continue to monitor the stormโs impact, including potential power outages, and will make a decision regarding school for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, as soon as possible.

๐๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ๐:
District administrators are closely monitoring the potential for winter weather Sunday through Monday. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority when making decisions regarding school closures.
Below are the possible options we may consider in the event of winter weather:
โข ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ง๐จ๐ฐ ๐๐๐ฒ: School is closed, and no instruction takes place.
Students participate in learning remotely from home.
โข ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ญ: School start times are adjusted to allow roads to improve.

Now is an excellent time to review our NTI plan and ensure students have the resources they need to participate successfully in remote learning. Families are also encouraged to have an alternative plan in place for childcare in the event school is closed.
We will continue to monitor the forecast and will communicate updates as soon as possible through our usual channels.

Last week our 8th grade class from SCMS, as well as a small group of 9th grade students from SCHS, visited the Shelby County Area Technology Center (ATC) to learn more about the schoolโs career pathways opportunities. These high-demand pathways include areas such as pre-nursing and dental, welding, machine tool, industrial maintenance, automotive and diesel technology, business and information technology (IT).
Mark Your Calendar! If you and your student are interested in learning more, make plans to attend the Shelby County ATCโs Open House on January 16, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

We hope everyone had a great Veterans Day yesterday! The district's annual parade, which kicks off at the high school each year, is one of our favorite activities; we love getting the chance to say โthank youโ to those in our community who have served in all branches of the armed forces. Several organizations passed out small tokens of gratitude to the veterans as they drove by, including Mrs. Combsโ 3D printing students and the Beta Club.
Save the date for prom! Information is attached and students who are planning on attending can fill out the Google Form in Google Classroom to submit a theme idea!

Mrs. Cook's and Mrs. Harrodโs senior English classes are embracing spooky season with suspenseful vocabulary! Students are learning through this suspense unit how language builds tension and the importance of word connotations.

Congratulations to our September Bears of the Month who were recognized by their teachers for showing Bear PRIDE!

Thursday night, 10/24, the SCHS Educator's Rising group is hosting a Trick or Treat event at SCHS. Kids of all ages are invited to Trick or Treat through the hallways. We will have food trucks, groups passing out candy, face painting, and concessions.

Have you seen this UTV driving around SCMS athletic events? Did you know that SCHS sophomore Dillan Baldwin designed the wrap for it? Dillan completed the side-by-side for his final art project of the 2023-2024 school year, which was a โProduct Redesignโ assignment, requiring him to recreate or rebrand a product and make it look like it would at a store.
"The side-by-side was purchased by the middle school and they asked us to wrap it for them," says art teacher Jeremy Gardner. "I didnโt hesitate to think of one student to see that through. Dillan had previous experience with wrapping and designing because he races a winged sprint car so I asked him to make it. He measured all of it and built it in Adobe Illustrator. Then we got it printed and he spent a day this summer wrapping it. I think the big thing is that we have awesome students who have numerous talents. Dillan was able to utilize his skills and knowledge to design and wrap the side by side. His talents as a graphic designer have garnered him other jobs beyond the school system, therefore he saw to it to create his own brand and company."
We love it when students get to show off their many talents!
