We’re still looking for a few great people to join the Spencer County Schools Transportation team!

If you’ve ever thought about driving a school bus but weren’t sure if it was for you, come out to our Test Drive a Bus event on Tuesday, September 15 from 5:00–7:00 PM at the Spencer County Bus Garage, 1430 Townhill Road.

We are looking for both full-time and part-time/substitute bus drivers.

There are a lot of great things about driving a school bus — a 180-day work calendar, working on the school schedule, summers and school breaks off, paid training, and benefits for full-time employees. It can be a great fit for retirees, parents, or anyone looking for a schedule that gives you more time at home.

You do not need a CDL or any previous bus driving experience to come out. That’s what we’re here for! Come meet our team, get behind the wheel, and see what driving a school bus is actually like.

Sometimes you just have to try it to know if it’s for you.

🐾🎉 Fun with Our Cubs as We Kicked Off Our First Den Day! 🎉🐾 What an exciting time at SCES! Our Cubs came together as one school family to celebrate, connect, and have some fun on our first Den Day! 💙 Kindergarten students and new Cubs kicked things off by drawing for their Den House colors leading up to the day! ❤️💙💚💛🧡💜🩶🩷 Then, on Friday, we gathered together to celebrate our Students of the Month for demonstrating kindness, played fun games to earn PBIS points, and learned more about our next Character Strong trait—Respect! 👏✨ Our Cubs showed what it means to be Engaged Citizens and Active Collaborators as they celebrated one another, worked together, and built a stronger school community. We can’t wait to see what the year brings as our Den Houses compete, encourage one another, and continue to love, learn, and lead together! 🐾💙

🌉🛠️ Engineering in Action! 🛠️🌉 Mrs. Sanford’s 4th grade science class got a taste of what it’s like to be an engineer! Students put their creativity and critical thinking skills to work as they designed and built bridges using popsicle sticks with their tablemates. Our Cubs truly demonstrated what it means to be Problem Solvers and Active Collaborators as they worked together, shared ideas, tested designs, and tackled challenges along the way. 💡🤝 Hands-on learning like this helps our students think big, work together, and discover that there is more than one way to solve a problem! At SCES, we love watching our Cubs love, learn, and lead! 💙🐾

🎶🌈 Learning Through Music! 🌈🎶 Today in music class, our Cubs were Engaged Citizens as we learned about the incredible life and legacy of Dolly Parton! 💕🎤 Through the book Dolly!, students learned about Dolly’s life and the lasting mark she has made on the world through her music, kindness, generosity, and empathetic spirit. 💗 We listened to 🎵 Coat of Many Colors and then got creative by coloring our very own coats! 🌈🖍️ Students were reminded that it’s not what we have on the outside that matters most—it’s the love and kindness we carry on the inside. ❤️ What a beautiful way to Love. Learn. Lead. 🐻💙

📚💙 Our Class Is a Family! 💙📚 Mrs. White’s and Mrs. Shepherd’s Cubs read Our Class Is a Family and celebrated what makes their classroom community so special by making friendship bracelets! 🧵✨ As Active Collaborators and Engaged Citizens, students talked about kindness, belonging, and how we can support one another. 🤝💛 Each bracelet included meaningful bead colors: 🔴 Red: Be kind 🟠 Orange: Be respectful 🟡 Yellow: Be yourself 🟢 Green: Be different 🔵 Blue: Stick together 🟣 Purple: Make memories Each bracelet was a little reminder that we are stronger when we learn and grow together! We love building classrooms where every Cub feels valued, connected, and ready to love, learn, and lead! 🐾🌟

🪱🛟 Can We Save Fred?! 🛟🪱 Mrs. Blackburn’s class took on a STEM challenge with one important mission: SAVE FRED! 🚨🪱 Students worked together to rescue Fred the worm, using teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving skills to figure out the best way to complete the challenge. 💡🤝 This hands-on activity was about so much more than saving a worm! It helped our Cubs practice Active Collaboration and Problem Solving while learning how to communicate, cooperate, and work together toward a common goal. 🧠✨ Most importantly, our Cubs were building a stronger classroom community—learning that sometimes the best solutions happen when we work together! 💙🐾 Another fun way to love, learn, and lead at SCES! 🌟

🔬🌱 Exploring, Creating, and Solving in the STEAM Lab! 🌱🔬 It was a busy week in the SCES STEAM Lab! 💡 Our young scientists and innovators made observations, investigated plant structures, solved plant “patient” mysteries, and transformed ordinary sticks into imaginative creations. 🌿🩺🪵✨ Through every activity, our Cubs practiced curiosity, creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving—the heart of STEAM learning! They showed what it means to be Empowered Learners as they asked questions, explored new ideas, and worked together to find solutions. They also demonstrated the competencies of Problem Solvers, Effective Communicators, Collaborators, and Innovators as they observed carefully, shared ideas, designed creative solutions, and learned from one another. 💙🐻 We love watching our Cubs Love. Learn. Lead. through hands-on discovery and innovation! 🌟
