Both SCES and TES Academic Teams had an incredible performance Saturday at the District Governorโs Cup.
They took home medals in Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Arts & Humanities, Written Composition, Future Problem Solving, and Quick Recall.
Taylorsville Elementary came in 1st overall. Spencer County Elementary came in 2nd and also received the sportsmanship award.
We canโt wait to see how well they do at the Regional Competition February 28.
This week, we proudly celebrate our Family Resource & Youth Services Center (FRYSC) Team โ and there simply arenโt enough words to express how loved and appreciated they are across Spencer County Schools.
Our FRYSC team goes above and beyond every single day to support students, families, and staff. Whether itโs meeting basic needs, connecting families to resources, offering encouragement during tough times, or quietly stepping in wherever help is needed โ they do it all with compassion, dedication, and heart.
Their work often happens behind the scenes, but the impact is felt everywhere. Our schools are stronger, our families are supported, and our students are better prepared to succeed because of YOU.

First, I want to thank you for your patience and flexibility as weโve navigated the recent winter weather. Our road crews and maintenance teams have been working tirelessly, and we are excited to welcome everyone back to the classroom!
Spencer County Schools will reopen on Monday, February 2, 2026, on a 2-hour delay.
While the main roads are clearing nicely, this delay is a strategic decision centered on safety. By pushing our start time back by two hours, we provide our bus drivers with the benefit of full daylight. This extra visibility is crucial for navigating narrow routes and managing turnarounds that may still be partially obstructed by large piles of plowed snow.
Important Points for Monday:
Start Time: All schools will begin exactly two hours later than their normally scheduled time.
Bus Pick-up: Your childโs bus will arrive approximately two hours later than the usual morning pick-up.
Our drivers are the best in the business, and we want to ensure they have every advantage as they get our students to school safely. Please continue to exercise caution on your morning commute and keep an eye out for those yellow buses.

Unfortunately, there are still a handful of roads that are not safe for bus travel. We realize that this has been a challenging week for many families, our students, and our staff. We are optimistic that next weekโs forecasted temperatures will allow these areas to thaw and improve.
Spencer County Schools will be closed on Friday, January 30, 2026. This will be a traditional snow day.

As we continue to deal with the impact of the past weekendโs winter weather event, I first want to share our gratitude for our city, county, and state employees who have worked around the clock to clear our roads to the extent possible. The Spencer County Board of Education is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to conduct its regular January meeting. Due to road conditions, this meeting will be postponed and rescheduled as a Special-Called meeting for Thursday, January 29th, 2026.
Depending on the conditions and/or any additional weather, the meeting may be held in-person or virtually. We will send out a revised and updated agenda on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026.

Our area is set for an impactful Winter weather event over the weekend. Please know that all activities for the weekend are cancelled. We will handle the impact of the weather on school for next week each evening. Our goal will be to make a decision for each day on the evening prior to a school day. This event is forecasted to have a heavy snowfall, icing, and prolonged temperatures below freezing. All of that will have a significant impact on operations.
As always, our goal is to ensure that families and our community receive timely and accurate information during events such as this.
Today, we are conducting a comprehensive test of our communication system to ensure that we are ready and that there are no issues. The goal of our communication test is to verify that our systems are functioning correctly and that your contact information is accurate and up to date.
